Arsenic and Manganese Reduction without Treatment
Well conditions:
This large production well had a flow rate of 2,900 GPM with arsenic concentrations of 12 ppb and manganese concentrations of 40 ppb.
Analysis:
A depth-specific analysis (a combination of spinner and water quality analysis) showed higher arsenic and manganese concentration in the upper zones. These upper zones produced about 30% of the water.
Recommendations:
Closing of upper zones through packer installations
Results:
Arsenic and manganese concentrations were reduced below MCL and secondary MCL. Arsenic was reduced from 12 to 7.5 ppb, and manganese improved slightly. This measure allowed keeping the well in operation without expensive wellhead treatment restrictions.
